From what I can reconstruct, I didn't change the block very much. I don't think I can post the original block from the book because of copyright issues. I hope it's okay to post my modified block. In my block, I added another patch (red or purple) in the upper right corner and changed the color scheme, red in the lower left, gold where Judy had the red swoop, and red to the right of the swoop instead of neutrals. I also made some different blocks for the border. The block changes are not what changes the overall look of the quilt. The layout is the big difference. I still love Judy's layout, but I like to make something different when I can.

The book is - Judy Martin's Log Cabin Quilt Book. I highly recommend this book. Good designs, construction information, lots of layouts, etc.

Believe it or not, my quilt is the same as the one on the cover, but as I said I changed the block just a little and changed the layout a lot. I experimented with EQ6 and also laid the blocks out on the floor. Here is a layout that's more like the one in the book. I wanted to do a light color piano key border, but the quilt was big enough without it, and I was tired of it, so I stopped. It's amazing to me how much a log cabin can change by just flipping the blocks around.

Wowzers, dunster!! I love to see your work. :D :D When I see those little squares in a log cabin pattern I smile and nod appreciatively, then turn the page in the book for something easier. Bravo to you for tackling the challenging stuff and making it beautuiful!!
