I think it is just as appropriate on the compost bin as on a barn!! It is a great idea I'll be borrowing for mine too, thanks!

Great barn quilt and looks wonderful on the compost bin! Your Mother will certainly enjoy looking at it!

Great barn quilt! Please give us details -- what paint did you use? What sort of board did you use?

Maybe those gear-heads will surprise you; especially when you remind them of how much time you spend in front of that window and how much you would enjoy a new view!

Well, I used the hardware store brand of the Rustoleum-type paint - I think it's called "X-O Rust" or something like that. The gentleman who did MY barn quilt has used that for quite a few barn quilts, so I figured it would work for me. And it comes in the 1/2 pint size. We used cabinet grade plywood, because my husband had a piece leftover from a project. Then we put banding around the edge, because the plywood layers of my own barn quilt are starting to come apart. One has to bear in mind that rain, snow AND sun are rough on things left outdoors. Lastly, we will be putting a little "roof" over Mom's barn quilt, in an attempt to keep some of the rain and snow from sitting on the top edge.
I don't know what kinds of boards others use for their barn quilts. I've heard some use metal.

This is a barn quilt we made for my Mom. We are betting she is the only person who has one mounted to a compost box! She can see it from her both her kitchen sink and her dining room seat.
She chose the design from a quilt at a show we attended last year.
Thanks for looking!
I have a dumb question to ask. Do you use outdoor fabric to make this? Maybe a heavier vinyl?
