Mom's Scrappy Top

Mom's Scrappy Top
When my Mom and friend and I inherited the stash of a departed family friend, we also inherited some of her orphan blocks and unfinished projects. We split them up between us to finish in honor of Marion, the quilter whose husband was so generous. Mom finished her top first.
She took on a stack of random scrappy nine-patches. Most of them are in a more traditional palette (though not quite all), so she wanted to do something that wouldn't let them fade into the background. She made her own pattern, took other fabrics that we inherited in larger quantities, and got to work.
This is her finished top! It stops at the thin outer brown border - the fabric beyond is her comforter.
(And also, a pillowcase she made for Dad in between working on the borders. He's been using it since.)
