Default Monarch Butterflies

What started as a table runner is instead going to be an art quilt. The fabric is named The Tree if Life, so I am adding butterflies embellishments for movement and more life. I purchased the machine embroidery design from Embroidery Library. It is a free standing lace type of embroidery. I initially struggled with completing the project. It takes 113 minutes to stitch out. The bottom thread must match top thread as you can turn butterfly around, so lots of bobbin winding. I usually use prewound bobbins, so it was a little extra preparation. I discovered I used the wrong weight of stabilizer, I needed new needles and finally, I had to replace the black thread. I still am not 100% satisfied with the completed project. Then I pinned one on my quilt in progress and stepped back. Wow! It really looks great, just don't turn it over and inspect. No one will see the bits that aren't perfect. The water soluble stabilizer is heavy weight, so butterfly can hold its shape. I let them air dry with a clip holding the center. They are huge 6 1/2 inch wing span, very dramatic. I am getting excited about this project and am considering other embellishments, this is the first one.

Wonderful addition to what looks like a beautiful quilt. I, too, would like to see more of the quilt.

I made DD some FSL butterflies for her to use as "table scatter". When looking, I don't think I saw those at Embroidery Library. Very life-like!
