Default The Most Special Labyrinth Quilt EVER!!!

    Howdy y'all :c)

This is THE most special quilt I have ever made! What makes it so special you ask? I have a 20-year-old daughter named Melissa who is autistic. Melissa has never shown any interest in my quilting at all, was only interested in my sewing skills as they applied to me repairing a stuffed animal or a pocket on her dress. LOL!

Well Saturday, just as I was sewing the first two rows together of my quilt, Melissa came into the room with me. By the time I had the rows 1/3 of the way sewn together, she was reaching over when I stopped at a pin, taking the pin out, and putting it in the pin box! She then watched as I laid the stitched rows out and put the third row on the second row with right sides together, and started handing me the flower pins to pin them together. Of course.....in true autistic fashion she HAD to give me the pins in the order of yellow, pink, purple, yellow, pink, purple all the way down the row. LOL!

Once again, as I stitched those two rows together, she took out the pins and put them in the pin box. By the time I finished sewing those two rows together, she had the fourth row in her hand waiting for me to finish. When I laid the stitched rows out, without me telling her what to do she laid that fourth row on top of the third one, right sides together, and perfectly lined up the corners! She stayed right beside me and did that through all sixteen rows!!!

So without further ado, here is the finished, very special Labyrinth quilt top and my helper! This is the first quilt we have made together!!! Doesn't she look proud??? :cD

    Thumbs up

What a treasure, in so many ways! The quilt is beautiful, and the fact that you worked on it together makes it that much more special. Melissa does indeed look proud!

Special indeed ...... as I wipe the tears of happiness from my eyes!
A few more times assisting you, and she'll be doing more and more of the work.
Temple Grandin would be proud of both of you.

Great fabric/colour choices for the labyrinth.
I like the subtlety, rather than it being bold colour switches.

Wonderfully touching story, the quilt and Melissa look happy. She'll be quilting herself before long.
