    Annette, have you checked out Downy quilts for kids. They send you the quilt top fabric and a very simple pattern and the backing fabric. You just follow the instructions for the quilt top, add batting, machine quilt it and send it back. You still have the expense of the batting, but the rest of the fabric is free and already cut into strips or blocks. You can get more info at Downy.com Bless you for working with the kids.

    I used to work with 6 Designers at a National Home builder... Man, I got some GREAT fabrics! Most of them were Upholstery grade, but not all. Everytime a Rep for the manufactor came in with a new line, I'd pick thru the samples & take what I wanted. I have several bags of beautiful lightweight cottons that tell me they want to be new duvet covers for the Grand kids. plus the discounts on yardage.... Like working in a candy store!
