    My afternoon project

I will be visiting extended family at the end of the month, and I wanted to take her a hostess gift, since I figure she won't accept money. So I asked her to send me photos of her living room and couch, and I came up with these cute little pillows which I hope she will like. I've been enjoying discovering different techniques of applique, and was having a lot of fun using some of those in the pillows. The tulip is done with fusible interfacing and stitched with invisible thread, the stem of the tulip was cut on the bias, ironed into folds and sewn on the inside, folded over, and stitched fast on the loose side, and the rest were done with more typical machine zig-zag stitches and fusible applique material. At any rate, I had a lot of fun this afternoon, and I hope you enjoy looking.

They're lovely, and such a nice thought for a hostess gift.
Being skinny isn't easy, so I gave up and opted for being sexy instead. (aunty acid)

I cut the length along the bias so it can bend. Iron in in half, then in half again, but with the cut edges slightly inside the folded edges for the 2nd fold. Fold them wrong sides together the first time. Then when you unfold them once, you line up the fold line with the line where you want it to go. Put the cut edge down against your background. Stitch down the center of the fold. When you are finished, all you need to do is lay the folded edge over the cut edge and sew that down, either by hand or by machine. It makes a really nice narrow stem.
