My aunt was my inspiration for starting quilting. She was "old-school," born in 1898 and started quilting when she was eight. In 1976 Good Housekeeping magazine had a quilt contest and she entered this Christmas Quilt. My uncle always swore the contest was rigged because my aunt didn't win!

I thought I'd share this treasure with you. She designed it; it's all made by hand. She loved applique and this one is adorable.

Wow, that is very intricate applique work! I love how she did the 12 days of Christmas around the border too. But the center panels are just jaw dropping. I can't imagine doing applique like that, it would make me crazy.

Good heavens! When I saw the quilt and read your story... I can't believe that it's survived so brilliantly all these years! It is in impeccable condition, and I would agree it belongs in a museum. It's absolutely wonderful! That's definetly a family treasure you have their. I hope your family passes it down and keeps it that way for many years to come!

Explosive blessings, abundance and inspiration to you all!
