It looks to me like an all knit fabric quilt from fabrics back in the 70's. The stitching looks like it is hand done with maybe perle cotton. What a nice utilitarian quilt.

How long have King Size beds been around? Not that long, I can remember never seeing either Queen or King Size beds until after I became an adult, about 61 yrs since I was 21 yrs old.
Might do some research--at Sears maybe?

I have my step dad's quilt made out of double knit and it's sewed together on the machine with stitches like that. I thought at first it was done by hand - but not. I can duplicate it on my Brother machine.
