The pattern Three Bean Salad comes from the book Wild About Flowers. You can probably still get it from Amazon.com or Ebay.

I bought mine at Walmart, when they still sold quilt books, but we all know that story.... don't go there!

Anyway, I love all the Leisure Arts quilt books. Every one I have seen I have ended up buying because the quilts are soooo pretty!

Omgosh that black and white is to die for quiltmaker! It's really stunning.

You might want to advise you dd to take it out of the plastic she has it stored in though. From all I've ever heard and read, plastic is the last thing we should store our quilts (or even our fabric) in due to moisture concerns and mold. She could wrap it up in a cotton sheet if she insists on keeping it stored. I think she needs to show that baby off though. Truly gorgeous!!!

Thanks again for all the compliments. I am finishing another quilt with the 3 bean blocks and solid blocks alternating. This one will be REALLY colorful. I call it "Salsa and Guacamole" It is green, orange and red with chili peppers on red as the solid block fabric.

Will be trying my hand at applique for the first time. I hand cut chili pepper shapes for the centers of half the pieced blocks.

I will post a picture of it when finished!

PS I love www.5bucksayard.com !!! They have the best quality fabrics at really good prices! That's where I found the red chili pepper fabric (3.99 yard) and it is perfect to finish my quilt! "Salsa and Guacamole" was a UFO until I found the chili peppers online. :D

When you choose fabric for a monochromatic quilt, do you get real picky on what looks good together or do you find the color you are looking for throw it in the pile and start working without worrying too much about it?

I was VERY picky about the fabrics in this quilt. No off-whites. Only real white and the same black in every piece. And I tried to stay mostly in the nature theme, although I added a few geometrics she really likes.

I like the purity of it, not having various shades of black and various shades of white. It draws your eye more to the design and the patterns that way, in my opinion.

My daughter knows I spent over a year finding just the right fabrics and the exact pattern to use. She uses it, but is very careful because she treasures it.

    I love it!
I've made that pattern before, except I did mine in purples.
No, don't have a picture of it. I did call my SIL and ask her to take one, but she hasn't :(
We must both have the same book! lol

Love love love your black and white quilt. I am partial to mine, too. It is on my bed, and I show it to whoever walks in the door. Tell your daughter not to be afraid to use it. I like the pattern. I was thinking of taking my black and white scraps and doing a yellow brick road for my niece.... She wants turquoise with it, though. Oh, dang. That means fabric shopping
