I really have no idea how old the top is. I was out in West Texas visiting my aunt one day, and she kind of casually handed a couple of quilt tops to me and said, "These were in Grandma's stuff, and I figured you were the only one who might want them. I started to just give them to Goodwill, but then I thought of you."

So they almost got given away. I don't know any of the history behind them. The other one is a signature quilt, so I am hoping we can look up the people on the internet and at least find out what town we are talking about. The grandma who had them didn't do a lot of sewing, so they may have been gifts. I just don't know. Maybe people who can date fabrics could tell more about the date range.

I can't even imagine she would think her quilting isn't just awesome.
Tell her we said so. I'm no expert at any of it, but I know pretty when I see it. You should give us a tute on hand quilting if DD learned to do that from you, mom!

Oh, I think she is reading these. She isn't a member (yet) but she can read the posts and I send her links to interesting threads.

I can't really do a tute without violating the copyright stuff, since I use the thimblelady's method exclusively, right down to her hoop, thimble, and needles. I think they are the best.

Even her quilting thread is good, YLI (made in the good ol' USA!). I just can't say enough good things about the package I got from Liuxin.

Woo Hoo  Another quilter in the family  She's better at hand quilting than I am. I've tried Thimblelady's method, and I like it - but my thumbs say no to hand quilting! It's great that she learned it to start with.
