I agree with Tartan. Quilt that beautiful star up and keep going. If this is your first one, you'll only get much better.

On this particular quilt I did the HST which was alot of fun.. I just ran into alot of problems because as I went it was so out of shape I used the quarter inch foot which really helps keep the seams the correct size but the fabric kept stretching out.. I can't wait to do another one with better quality fabric.
When you mention "out of shape? ... was it caused by the HSTs?
You might want to look at the different ways to make them.
I find the best way is to do the square with the diagonal line that you stitch on both sides, and do multiples of them together as a grid on the fabric before I stitch. Then cut, press and trim to size. I oversize in the grid stage, so that when they are trimmed, I can make them precisely the size they are to be.

This might help your "out of shape" problem, and with your 1/4" foot, you'll be well on the way to the perfectly pointy points that we all love to accomplish!

Another way for HSTs would be PPd or triangulations.

Love your color choices and what a nice job you did...some of your points were the only thing I can say. And the more you do points, the better you will get. When you use inexpensive fabric, starch it quite heavy and that will help a bit with the stretching. Welcome to the QUILT WORLD, you will not be obsessed like the rest of us. LOL

Love it with that border, finishes it off nicely! Another thing tha helps with "stretching"...lots of starch before you cut your fabric. I use Sta-flo 50/50 with water. My mom just started using it too, and it has improved accuracy immensley. Great Job!!!

Those are pretty colors and I am intrigued by the way it was constructed. Very pretty and like QuiltE, I would suggest that method of HSTs. When I did that, my life got sooooo much easier. I just couldn't seem to master perfectly square squares without distortion even though I used a bucket of starch. It is so pretty and congratulations. You are well on your way to creations that will astound us.

I am a brand new quilter and found out some of my stretching was due to how I ironed. There are some good pointers on that on line. Also some one on the quilt board mentioned using a heavy duty starch that does not flake and that was helpful for me also. I think your colors are beautiful and agree with others you did a difficult one!
I took a local course on the disappearing 9 patch that makes a lap quilt in 3-4 days.....goes together fast and I liked
    it for a first quilt!
