My first real attempt at free-motion quilting
#51
From what I have read and experienced first hand, there is a real marriage between stitch length, tension, and the speed in which you move the fabric, especially with curves. I had a similar problem at first, but I kept making sample quilt sandwiches on which to practice. Eventually, it got more comfortable. Also, I made sure I sued the same thread in both top and in the bobbin. FMQ is like a dance; where practice is the only way to really learn the steps.

Thanks Helen. I'm anxious to start another project. I really enjoyed doing this. I can see where as it gets more comfortable, the results improve. I really can't see myself doing an entire quilt this way, but I can easily imagine mixing hand-quilting with FMQ.

Thanks for justflyingin to comment. Thanks for the kind words. I agree that the first time is the hardest. I'm anxious to try again.
