Beautiful block, I have to look up the royal cross block.

I haven't tried circles, they are very pretty.

I've been thinking about this for a while and wonder how it's coming along?

Funny you should mention that, Celeste. I was just looking at the Ziploc bag of them on my bookcase shelf (beside my chair), and wondering how many more I have to put together. I was working on them during the fall/winter when I was caring for my ailing grandmother in the overnight hours, and stopped when she was placed in a nursing home in January. She passed in April, and I haven't had the heart to touch them since. We've just been renovating our basement, and now that it's drawing to a close, I'll probably get back to it. It's competition for my daughters' Mariner's compass quilts I have to do for their new rooms.

rb, I know how you feel about not touching them since your grandmother passed away. I'm sorry to hear about that. You could finish the quilt as a "tribute" to your grandmother though. She would probably really like that.

Yes, she would have loved to know I finished as a tribute to her. She was a great woman who never had the time to do something like quilting, she was too busy working to raise her children to have much leisure time, and then dementia set in during her retirement years.

I've decided to set aside a minimum of an hour a day to sit and work on the blocks. I have six complete, and some pieces put together, as I started doing the same pieces in different blocks (assembly line style). I toyed with the idea of machining them, but I doubt that would work. My experience is that hand pieced blocks and machined blocks rarely end up the same size...by my hands, anyway.
