My January & February 365 Day Challenge Blocks
I have just finished the big February block (18"), so have grouped the blocks together by month and here they are. The small blocks will finish at 3", so they are tiny. I have not made many tiny blocks, so this has been a challenge, for sure. I'm counting the pieces in each block and one in particular had 42 pieces. That is a lot of pieces in a 3" block!
I'm feeling a bit challenged with the color values. I'm usually OK in this area, but I really wanted this to be a red quilt and also to use the fabrics in my stash, so I'm finding that I don't have a lot of values in red fabrics. I was reading on someone's blog yesterday about color value and how she takes a picture with her iphone to see the value. Sheesh, I didn't even know that was an option, so I did this with the blocks and am posting that picture here as well (in case others didn't know this existed on their phones). I'm going to start using this to figure out the fabrics I use in each block. When I have looked at some of the fabrics while making these blocks they have appeared to be medium and dark values, but when I get the blocks put together they just blend together, so this iphone thing will be a huge assistant for me.

Your blocks look fabulous! I'm working on this challenge too. I'm doing mine in random scrappy colors, and I am a little surprised at how different the blocks all look when they are all color coordinated, as yours are! I look forward to seeing your progress!

Your blocks look great, and your center block is super. I worked on one of these a couple of years ago, and had a terrible time with the center block. Ended up throwing it away! So bravo to you for sticking with it. I love the red, BTW. And you'll see that somewhere along the line you'll be switching to lighter backgrounds for another round or two. Ya, the center block was a bit much. It had you cutting blocks/strips that were 15/16's and other 16th measurements. Honestly, if I had to do it again I would NOT do it the way she did it in the pattern. It could have been done another way, but I wanted to stick with her pattern in case there was something to be learned with her method.

No, they are not paper pieced. They mostly work with 1", 1.25", 1.5", 2", and 2.5" pieces.
I'm going to plug a product here, because I have owned it since 2004 and would never go without it. It's the TRIANGULATIONS CD. I just got a new laptop and purchased a CD reader to go with it just to use for this CD. All you do is pop the CD in, pick what size FINISHED HST's you want to make, and the paper prints out on your printer. I know you can purchase papers for triangles from other places, but this CD has 1/2"-3" finished sizes in increments of 1/8", so any size I have ever wanted to use (that is small) can be printed out from this CD. I have used this to make all those itty bitty HST's that finish at 1/2" and 3/4" and up.
