I love it!!!!!! !!! But, I know how hard it is to finish a project that you don't like, unfortunately I don't have any suggestions on what to do.

Scrappy that we like is actually harder to achieve than you would think. Random often results in ugly, we want attractive randomness. It took me years of working with scraps to develop techniques to also working with my design sense to get to where I am not working so hard to achieve perfection. !

I am not a scrappy quilter at all. I agree that trying a more neutral sashing would probably work. I do love all the colors you are using, but all are dominant. There has to be some calming for a quilt to work. Try laying a couple of the flying geese unit on black or white or any other color that you have that is an opposite of all those bold colors. You may like it more.

I think what I'd have done differently is use the Kaffe's as the "centers" of the geese. They are so busy that putting them in a non-prominent place means that the eye sort of doesn't have a place to rest. The eye wants to focus on the centers, but those edges are so busy....
But....I like the quilt.
Maybe put colors together or separate the pairs of geese with black or white sashing.
I have a few Kaffe prints, but only because I got them in a grab bag. They can certainly be hard to work with sometimes!

I love all the conversation this has started, Notwendy. While you are bemoaning this project it will be a well remembered quilt for all the lessons learned about color, design, and most of all what you like and don't like. You have stepped out of the "safe zone" of following someone else's fabric and layout choices..think a kit...and entered into your own zone. Enjoy the process despite the frustrations.

Thank you for posting your situation with the Kaffe Fassett prints and additional colorful solids. I've gone through the "adventure" of making HST with the print and accompanying solid. Heartbreak. My experiment was an accidental nightmare. I ended up carefully unsewing the individual blocks on the diagonal as they were taken down from the design wall. The K.F. triangles have been pressed and trimmed down a bit. They remain in isolation storage. I did find a neutral K.F. light grey with silvery polkadots. Now my plan is to make the HST with the neutral fabric. I don't know if I will continue with simple HST or combine units to form another design. You are not alone when it comes to finding a pleasant setting for solids and prints. Happy Thanksgiving!
