What a neat idea I love buttons and have all of my Moms' buttons. Every now and then I use them on a pincushion or some other item and it reminds me of the fun I used to have when she let me play in her button jar as a child

That's a lot of buttons for sure. Have fun going through them.

I washed all my Grams' buttons this spring after having been stored for over 40 years. Also my moms. Just filled the sink with hot water and Dawn, took out all the metal buttons and threads, and placed the buttons in a strainer and dipped up and down several times, then let them sit for about 10 minutes. Rinsed and laid on a dish towel to dry. Clean, shiny, pretty buttons.

I love buttons!!! I got all my DGM'S button collection that she had in old cigar boxes(yes, I still have the cigar boxes)when she passed. I put them in canning jars and got the adapters to make small lamps out of the jars. I get to have her close to me at all times(she's been gone almost 40 yrs.).
You have a VERY special sister!!!

Dennise, I do have a very special sister. Your idea to make lamps out of canning jars with your DGM's buttons inside is awesome, what sentimental lamps you have! Great idea!

This is easier than what I did before when I dumped my buttons into the sink and it took forever to get them all clean and caught. Some of them could swim! Thanks for the tip.
