I love the decorative stitch on the binding. I think you did a fine job and your friend will love it.

I think you did a wonderful job and I'm sure your friend will treasure it. Please don't worry about wonkiness and such, as your experience grows, the mistakes will be fewer.

If the batting is caught in the outside stitching you might not need more stitching in the border. How wide is the border.

You could do a more open decorative stitch down the center of the border to really make sure it will stand the test of time of many washings and use.

Great job on this thoughtful gift.

like farmquilter suggested a decorative stitch. How about in a serpentine style
down the middle. I did that to a wall hanging
I made for a quilter that had pockets bc I thought the border needed
    more stability.
I think this quilt is darling and she's going to like it.

It's very pretty! I wouldn't knot tie the borders, since the rest is machine quilted, I would continue with machine quilting in the borders. You could always use the same or another decorative stitch in the borders. If you don't want to do anything as labor intensive as crosshatching (which would reflect the X's stitched in the blocks), a wavy stitch down the middle will do.

If it is possible, try to keep you first quilt close in the family. Years from now it will be a priceless treasure for you. You have done a great job and I look forward to seeing more of your quilts.
