I've made the star. Very clever how you mixed in the chain. Really like it alot and the colors are great! Lucky son #3!

That is really lovely! I have a pile of friendship blocks, but wanted to do something more with them because the corners are so plain... I guess it would take re-making the entire thing to add the nine-patch center and the corner blocks, oh never mind. I will just enjoy looking at yours. what size are your blocks? Is this a published pattern?

The pattern is an original design. I've been obsessed with the whole chain effect lately and am working on a log cabin design with similar effect for my younger son.
oh, I just looked through the previous messages and saw that this is an original design. I love mitered borders, too, and nothing thrills me more than finding a pattern that creates a secondary design when you place the blocks together. What other chain effect blocks are you trying?

What you could do is use colored "cornerstones" and put triangle on the ends of your sashing so that when sashing and cornerstones come together they for another Friendship star. This way, they won't be lined up in tidy little rows. They'd be a little different. You could even use skinny sashing, so the stars around the corner stones would be smaller than your blocks. Just a thought....
