This was an acquaintance's first quilt and looked really well made - until I tried to load it on the frame! She had bought a quilt kit and wanted to add borders to make it queen sized. Evidently she had measured along the edges of the blocks instead of through the middle of the quilt to get the measurements for the borders. She added six borders to three sides of the quilt and one border to the top. By the time she had it done, the quilt was four inches bigger at the bottom than it was in the middle! I had to take all 19 borders off, remeasure them and resew them to the quilt before I could get started on the quilting. It all turned out well in the end and I think she'll be pretty happy with the quilting that I did. Sorry I couldn't get a good picture of the whole quilt but I don't have a space big enough!

Hopefully you let the maker know so she won't make that same mistake again!

Great job for a first quilt and the quilting is gorgeous. I think we all make the same border mistake in the beginning unless someone tells us differently.
I still watch shows where they say they just lay the fabrics across the end of the quilt and cut. I does seem to work on baby quilts, but not larger ones.

Your quilting is beautiful--the quilt turned out very pretty.
Isn't it frustrating to work with problems along the way?

Sometimes you can get away with that, but when you are adding 6 borders, it's sure to come back and bite you!

Thanks, everyone, for the compliments on the quilting - I really appreciate it.

I did not know that about borders until recently. I read it on a member's blog. Light bulb moment - so THAT'S why my borders are wavy!! I haven't made a new quilt to try it yet but am looking forward to it.

The quilt and quilting are lovely - she is very lucky that you fixed her mistake.
