I started this last week but could only work on it during the afternoon (usually went into town during the mornings) when I could see the colors on the chart best.
You have 6 different color strip sets. You don't usually need all the colors in that strip set so that mean unsewing the colors you need in that set and sewing it back together. So, not your typical bargello. DH said it would drive him nuts but I thought of it as following a cross stitch chart.
Here are pics along the way. Strips are cut 1 1/2", sewn together and then cut again in 1"-2" widths.
The design is by Dereck C. Lockwood. His version ended with a white border but I thought I wanted more. Mine is 45" x 45" with 1,841 pieces.

Finished wih design continuing outside border.

That is amzing. How would you quilt that so that you don't detract from the design?

That is awsome! Thanks for sharing! Someday I want to try a bargello. Is it hard to decide what colors you need?

It is Mirage by Dereck C. Lockwood. It was in Beautiful Bargello by House of White Birches. I'm sure you could find easier ones to start on where you start out with one strip of colors and just move them up or down one color at a time (kind of like BizzieLizzies avatar. A simple one to begin with). But, I wanted something with a little challenge. (My first quilt ever was a Grandmother's fan. LOL)
I used basically the colors he used although his look like they are solid colors so I was hoping my prints would work.
I have seen them quilted with just straight lines in each color path and I've seen them quilted with feathers and pebbles, etc. I kind of want something in-between.

I like how you took the design past the white strips. It really is very striking now. Plain white border would have been WRONG!! :-o
