Are you going to put in some hollow cubes also? That would really add even more punch to those rich colors. IMHO.

The instructions for the cubes are in the second book - One Block Wonders Encore! by Maxine Rosenthal. I agree that these would really enhance this as the blocks aren't throwing up a lot of variation as the print is smaller than your strips so not really being cut into. Alternatively, you could adapt to stack n whack and put in solid setting triangles to frame the individual blocks which are beautiful.

Also, have you sewn full hexes? It's hard to tell from the photo... Which book are you working form? Lovely colours though!
