This is a genius solution that I wish I had seen before I bought my long arm. The weight of the quilt really hurt my back when I tried to quilt with my regular sewing machine. I have all kinds of quilting embroidery patterns that I have been reluctant to try because trying to stabilize the very heavy unfinished quilt was a nightmare to me. I tried it once, and the quilt weight wouldn't really let the machine move the quilt where it needed to stitch the pattern out correctly. I gave that up very quickly.

I am heading to the store to buy the parts and pieces to put one of these together for me as soon as the rain stops. Even though I have the long arm, sometimes I want something a lot more special in the big open spaces. And, my long arm skills are pitiful without a pantograph and, chuckle....not very good with one. And, yes, I am laughing at myself. It is a well known fact that my husband is the artist in this family, and 2 of our 3 kids took after him. Thank you Lord! Now, just to get one of them interested in quilting!

I think that would work great for any machine quilting job. Great idea.

Absolutely brilliant Kate! You saved yourself a bundle and I love that you can disassemble it when not in use.

I looked at the link to the Janoop site and commented there that it would be easy to build. Seeing these photos also makes me realize you don't necessarily need as much table space with this setup and that would be ideal for smaller sewing rooms. I'm looking to downsize in the next year or two and if i don't have to have all those tables for quilt support I would be thrilled. Thanks for posting this.
