Need advice on quilting a bargello

I think that looks like a great idea!! I think I might be able to finish it even with hand quilting it. Any suggestions about the 8" border? I had planned to use the cream color for the backing and so to make it match the pieced part of the top will have to sew two cream pieces together to make it 56"x56" and then add the 8" strips all around to match the 8" top border so final size adds up to 72x72.

Nice quilt...I love your color choices!
Eddie has a closeup picture of how he quilted his...it shows what some of the others were trying to describe.

If I understand correctly, you want to add the extra strips to the back and wonder how they will look once quilted. Is that what you are asking? If so, I wouldn't worry about matching the quilting on the backside. It would be nearly impossible to get them to line up exactly as on the front. I frequently add strips either solid or pieced to the back and don't even consider them when quilting the front. They always look fine. :)

It is beautiful.
When you have a linear design, normally a curvatious quilt design will look great. Use a thread that blends and go for it. Meandering would be great. Don't let the quilting take over the quilt. Let it just be there in the background.
