Well, I agree with you that the design is so busy that a simple, overall quilting might be the best choice. As to the backing, black would be nice but I don't typically use black solids because they pick up so much lint. Someone suggested grey, which would be nice--or perhaps a black and white stripe?

I'll take it - but I think grey on the back and a meandering would be best - my taste at least - any more would be a waste of effort and not be seen for the dynamic changes in the design - YOU WIN !!

I won't waiste the time to do feathers. They would be lost in the design of the fabric. Either of the other 2 choices would be great, but I prefer the FMQ myself. I think a black binding with yellow piping would set the quilt off nicely, so either backings would work. It's a beautiful quilt.

Sorry GramyX7 but I agree with your daughter, curves to soften all the straight lines, she wins in my most humble opinion:-) Gray backing with gray thread. Beautiful quilt.

Tell her we voted for your idea, and surprise her by doing 'her' way. Christmas is coming!

I'm a grandma a few times over. That lovely little girl in the picture needs to have flowers in the large blocks and swirls and stuff where she wants them. She should settle for a black and white print for the back, to help hide any quilting errors, prints are so much more forgiving.

I also think she should be doing some chores while the quilting is being done. If she has some skin in the game, she'll take better care of her new quilt.

FANTASTIC quilt, by the way.

I am by no means a quilting expert, in fact I probably would be considered a newbie, but I agree with you. It is a very busy quilt to start with and I'm thinking that her design would make it more so.

I am no expert but I would make it a bit more modern with straight line quilting (keeping it simple) .. or something like this:http://www.filminthefridge.com/2011/...lting-pattern/ and for the back I'd do plain gray (if your daughter likes gray)

I agree. I think plain black is a mistake if you quilt in black, otherwise, I don't think it matters. I am told there is often substantial color loss in black fabrics, so be sure you wash it very well before you use it, so nothing bleeds onto your front in later washings.
