    Nephews 'every color' quilt done!

About 2 years ago, I made the mistake of asking my nephew, then 12, if he would like me to make a quilt for him. He said yes, and then proceeded to tell me the colors he wanted in it. I don't think he missed one...and he wanted them all dark. I told him I'd see what I could do, but it had to have some light colors or it would look dull and unfriendly.

Saw this quilt in MCCalls quilting mag, Feb 1, 2011, and knew this was it!

It is titled "Architectural Gem", designed by Susan Guzman. It's made using batiks in 2.5 " strips that I purchased about 2 years ago from Connecting threads.

To me, it has a stained glass look. It sure brightens up a room!

It is quilted in a meander that is made up of loops and birds in flight. The last row was a bear for me to put in - 4 tries before i got it right. But it was worth it.

    Hope you enjoy it!

The one underneath is courtesy of JCPenney about 20 years ago. It's held up well and I still love it. Plus it matches the paint on the wall perfectly.

Your Grandson made a wise choice in color and you made a lovely quilt.

Both are lovely. I imagine he will use it always. It is strong and bold - perfect for the young man as he goes through life.

Nice quilt you've made him. I, too, have the quilt that you have underneath (the stars); also purchased mine from J.C. Penney approx. 18 yrs. ago Mine was washed so many times, it was beginning to become too worn in places = edges of quilt as it has borders but really never had a binding on it. I also have the pillow shams and wallpaper border that matches the quilt. It was incentive for me to make a quilt myself some day!
