    You might try turning the machine on its side and look under the left side of the machine bed. I recently bought a 401 and couldn't find my serial number either. With the help of others, that's where I found mine. It was in such plain view I couldn't believe I missed it. Actually, I should say 'we' since both DH and I were looking for it. :-D

    Mine (pictured above) has “404-“ on it too. You have an interesting machine. Let me know if you ever want to get rid of it.

    CD - not planning on getting rid of it anytime soon. I'm excited, I now have 4 similar machines to use for my sewing classes :-)

    I really need to post a new picture of her all cleaned up!
