more steps:

    cutting the ends off

    looks better this way

trying it both ways. also, you'll notice I'm including the band of fabric from the original to go with the nameplate to give it authenticity. This shows the nameplate was originally part of the front at one time!

Thanks everyone! You know I believe you can't even tell now that the tops of the letters were missing! Adding that margin back in sure fooled the eye! It almost looks like it added the tops back in itself! haha! I did no touching up there at all. However, here is the rest of the label. I abandoned the idea of adding an arrow to the hearts just like the original, but they sure looked cute! I used that bright blue fabric from the front and it really added alot. However, simplicity is best and sometimes we can get carried away.

I almost screwed up the printing of the numbers by trying to emulate the original so on the '11' the second # looks like a 2! Oh, well.....we'll leave it as is rather than attempting to screw it up more and make it worse -- then no one will know what year it was done! lol. :-D ;-)

    appliqueing it on

label finished! now on to chaining it all together!

Took a pic yesterday of the label. The binding was glued down to the backside. This saved me MUCH hand sewing time and that's important. Use shortcuts wherever possible. The label was then hand appliqued down. Will have some before and after pics before long. :-D

I love to bury the applique stitches deep underneath so they don't show!

Ok, here are the final steps I took to anchor the banner to the mini. I used a hot glue gun, btw, as the strength and durability is 1000x better than sewing. I have things I did 15 yrs. ago that still have the hot glue on -- it's that tough! Am sure you do too! It's easy to pull off the excess glue too!

Now I'll show you how I finished it:

I did the matching side in this pic. I only needed to dismantle 1 earring as it had 2 chains on it! Aha! I still have 1 earring left! haha!

With my needle nose pliers, I am just cutting the earring apart

16 gauge paddle wire is nice but decided to use the wire on the florist's pick (as it's much thinner) to rechain it into 3 links as I wanted a 1/2" drop from banner to mini. Either wire would work great.
