Good eye. Now the machine needs to be threaded using thread with a wooden spool, although I have some from that era that are like styrofoam. The 50's was definately wood.
A friend of mine also goes to a themed reunion. She makes a small wallhanging for autographs that stays with the hosting family. This year it was BBQ.
