I like this smaller version. I agree you need something less distracting. Very nice though.

What about a pale lavendar or baby blue solid?? Yellow is too strong, I think. Personally, I like muslin cream to back the Dresden. However, with your colors, I think the pale shade of blue, or lavendar would be a nice change. You are doing an excellent job with piecing.
