she's an antique dealer, and she used to quilt but arthritis and other medical problems has her hands shaking so bad, she had to quit sewing / crocheting. She can still knit if she really concentrates... she is actually raising her grandkids (long long story)... but she said she has quite a few bins of precut strips that need a home, so I think she just wants to fondle the final quilt (she has vintage hankies at her shop). Plus she wants to see my final take on putting it together. I told her I would put her strips to good use between Project Linus, NICU and Quilts of Valor :) I think she likes the idea I would use them 100% for donation items. And she knows I put a lot of thought into my quilt designs, even for NICU. (her grandson was one of the dancers in my Poodleskirt Project BTW) ~ I saw the video tonite of the poodle skirt dancers, OMG they brought the house down!!!

basting... and basting... i've got this laid out in the middle of the livingroom floor right now, so family is having to dance around it. LOL they know they live with a quilter haa haa!

Having to baste each bfly down, too many pins to hold them properly, even tho they are all heavily starched. So basting them plus the little white corners I'm adding for texture... then I can move it to a better spot to do the hand applique stitching. I am estimating two days of that, will have to tack down all the tatting on the crocheted bflys so the lacework stays where I want it to, for forever and a day! They are so pretty, and I stretched and starched each little tatted point to make the crochet work all pretty & nice.

Whew, lots of work, but she's coming together nicely... need a good masseuse.

This is definitely a labor of love. I hope they appreciate all the love in each stitch! Will you incorporate a part of a hanky in the label?

yes, there is a very special one with a purple/yellow iris tatting, and I'm going to use that one to create the label :) I was sad when it would not fold perfect for a butterfly, but I found a way to use it on Jess's quilt yay!

whew, lots of hand-embroidery to tack those butterflies on! Almost done with that stage, so no new pictures of continuation, I didn't want anyone to think I disappeared :) Still going, got 1.5 weeks to finish top, then allowing myself 2 weeks to comfortably quilt it (want to take my time with that!!!)
