Since most can sew flat stuff, it's a good way to get fancy fabric and use the decorative stitches on the machine.
I could imagine a young sewer having fun. They could then use the piece in a simple article.
Before all the new fabric with metallic highlights came out, I used to do my own metallic highlighted yardage on the machine with metallic thread and fancy stitches.
