You had an amazing trip! If you go back next year try to visit The Mammoth Site at Hot Springs, South Dakota. It is an amazing pit where at least 52 mammoths died and the bones are being dug while you watch. They take volunteers!! I've worked there several Julys. They only dig in July and the rest of the year is spent analysising what was found. It's all enclosed in a climate controled building so the workers are getting to play Indiana Jones in this giant air conditioned sand box. (You can only volunteer through an org. called Earth Watch.) Definitely worth the stop!

Both sites are awesome. Nature at it's best. Hubby and I got to enjoy the sites in 2007. We did a 2 month road trip through the states. Had a great time.

We are from Eastern South Dakota and the Black Hills, Mt Rushmore is always one of our favorite trips. There is so much to see. We had an old time photo taken with my DH and all of our children. The 5 year old wanted to take the outfit home with her. LOL
