I've done drawer fronts on a good sized dresser. I glued the fabric with good old white glue and used a clear high gloss polyurethane on that. I have already been thinking about doing a chair for the living room. Not sure what color patchwork because the chair woodwork says it wants to be painted purple or burgandy. No white for me.
