Yeah he is picky....but I love em.... lol....
I may put flannel on the back of his next one and use the wool batting that sounds like a great idea!! I get too many good ideas on here!!! Love it ladies thanks for the suggestions.

You have to be careful with wool batting in regards to washing it. Be sure to follow and/or read instructions on that type of batting.

Be care with the wool batting. When washing the quilt some times the batting will shrink more than the quilt leaving a messy looking quilt.

I like the warm and natural batting. My daughter used to say she wanted a "warmer" quilt, but quickly realized that the quilt was very comfortable as it was. I'm sure your fiance will love the quilt ... after all, you made it for him!

Great quilt! I use Warm & Natural or wool. Hope you find what he likes! :)

There are several sites that discuss the pros and cons of different batting. Here is one:

    http://www.quiltingassistant.com/batting.html

The one time I quilted by hand, I used Mountain Mist batting. It was easy to get the needle through.

I don't know the answer to your question. But I would agree with the advice not to use a double layer of batting.
