One UFO down, many more to go!

Pieced this top in 2009 for some friends (who have both since passed away) and finally pulled it out to finish. I posted a picture some time ago and asked for suggestions since it was very ugly to me. Someone suggested that bears would like nice. So.....2 bears later it is done! Julie Weaver is the quilt designer (without the bears) and the pattern appeared in the December, 2008 Quilter's World magazine.

Do the bears represent the intended recipients that have since passed? If so, I think it is very clever. I love the bears. It gives the quilt have a touch of whimsy.
