yes, the blocks are 8". I haven't quilted it yet - my piecing skills are way more advanced than my quilting skills! I want to get better before I quilt this baby.

Beautifully executed. Good job of paper piecing and of fabric placement. Even with some "ugly" fabric, when it is all cut up and scattered around, the uglies become beautiful in the overall scheme of the quilt.

And, WOW!!! Am I reading the thread correctly. The blocks are 8" blocks, so the center would finish 2" and the strips would each finish 1/2". It's a miracle that you completed it in one year.

Really great job!!!

whoops. I was wrong - I went back and measured the finished blocks. They finish at 7 1/2", the center red square is 7/8" (I measured several of them to be sure it wasn't supposed to be 1 inch). You are correct about the strips - they are 1/2" inch.

It WAS somewhat tedious at first. I started doing just one block at at time; that got boring. So I got a stack of 5 or 6 blocks and would go one round on each of them at a time. That way when I was done, I had several complete blocks to go up on the design wall, and that helped to spur me on even more.

This quilt is so superb it takes my breath away in awe. I’ve done some paper piecing but nothing like this undertaking.
You should be tapping your shoulder with congratulations for a job well done.
