Beautifully executed. Good job of paper piecing and of fabric placement. Even with some "ugly" fabric, when it is all cut up and scattered around, the uglies become beautiful in the overall scheme of the quilt.
And, WOW!!! Am I reading the thread correctly. The blocks are 8" blocks, so the center would finish 2" and the strips would each finish 1/2". It's a miracle that you completed it in one year.

It WAS somewhat tedious at first. I started doing just one block at at time; that got boring. So I got a stack of 5 or 6 blocks and would go one round on each of them at a time. That way when I was done, I had several complete blocks to go up on the design wall, and that helped to spur me on even more.

This quilt is so superb it takes my breath away in awe. I’ve done some paper piecing but nothing like this undertaking.
