Pixel Portrait Quilt
I made this pixel portrait quilt for my mum. It is based on a picture of my father (who passed 8 years ago) as he looked when my mum first set eyes on him. My mum and dad were so utterly perfect for each other. My siblings and I called them eternal newlyweds. His death devastated my mum.
The quilt includes 10 fabrics (1 white, 5 grey and 2 black in Kona cotton, dark grey woodgrain for a picture frame like mitered border and dark to light grey stone texture ombre backing), nearly 2,000 pieces (ranging from the smallest at 1 1/4 in, to the largest at 6 1/2 in), totalling 108 blocks arranged in a 9 by 12 grid, plus 6 1/2 in border. I did the most basic of stitch in the ditch quilting because I didn't want the stitching to compete with or take away from the portrait. On the back I created a quilt label by scanning and printing on fabric an inscription in his handwriting on a card from my dad to my mum "All my love, Marcus".

If your mom is half as pretty as your dad is handsome , they made a strikingly good looking couple. Your idea and quilt is one of a kind! I know your mom will cherish this quilt. Can you tell us the overall size? I would love to know how you accomplished this. Beautiful!-Toogie
