Not really I cut the 4 centers 8-1/2 " X 10-1/2" center (that was all the red & gold fabric I had) and 2-1/2 strips. Which I sewed down to the warm & white batting. Then did a straight line quilting in the center after binding was finished. The mitered binding is folded over from backing fabric, first trim backing fabric 3" wider and longer than finished top. Folded first to edge of mat, then folder over and press, Mark line across corner and sew stopping at the first first fold - trim 1/4" re-fold and stitch in place to complete. Approx size 12-1/2" X 14-1/2" finished
