Definitely #1 or #3. Just a thought ---what if you made the design larger, like only 4 x 5 squares instead of 5 x 6. Your pieces would be a little larger to work with.

The squares are actually 10X10 and the entire quilt will be 74X 68.

With #1 - I see the steps first - and for reasons I can't explain, I would like the steps to go from bottom left to top right.

With #3 - I see the backgrounds first, and the steps are secondary

I don't care for #2 or #4 - and I can't explain exactly why - maybe because it's because the steps resemble some other patterns, and it seems like a waste of a really unique design feature.

perfect explanation. I agree with this. If it's the steps that you want to see, number one accomplishes that.

I keep going back to one. They are all great but there is something that catches my eye on one

I like #3 the best. It flows well, but your eyes don't get bored as they would in #1. All of them would be lovely, though.

I like 1 the best. The steps jump out at me. (For 3, the steps don't jump out.... they are secondary).

I don't like 2 or 4 as much. They make my head spin. LOL
