    Prairie Chicken Scrap quilt

I have a selection of what I call "Posh" bedding, I cannot sleep comfortably between sheets because when I get night sweats which I do quite often due to pain control, the sheets stick to me so when I try to roll over I nigh on strangle myself So I have make a selection of quilts to use instead of sheets, using the sheets for backings.

Here is one I made a while back out of scraps, what was great about it is the 4 blocks that make the Chickens measure 36" square so I did the QAYG method and made a nice size double. I really must make another one as it a lovely pattern and useful for using up scraps. I am lucky to have downloaded the Free Prairie Chicken pattern when I did as I see that the Prairie Queen Pattern Company doesn't seem to exist any longer, shame.

Sorry it's not the best of pics but it has just been washed and is hanging up to dry.

Love your quilt! I looked up the pattern and although it is no longer available, I did find a photo of the whole quilt so I could see the design. This is going on my to do list as I think it would be a great way to use up my scraps also. Thanks for showing us your quilt!

Silly me, I should have asked how you used the QAYG method to make your blocks. Can you explain your process?

No funny enough I think it is to do with the wadding absorbing the sweat and of course the are not as light and flexible as a sheet, the main thing about quilts is that they breathe. I made one for a gentleman who suffers terribly with crohns disease and he loves it as instead of chucking off his duvet when he got hot and sweaty and then of course got cold he found the lightweight quilt works a treat for him.

I made up the sets of 4 blocks and then used a method similar to this http://quilting.wonderhowto.com/how-...achine-423636/ to join them together. I found it easier to use a stepped zig-zag with a matching thread just in case I didn't meet the seams just so, worked a treat.

I found the pattern through Prairie Queen Pattern Company on Etsy. She has several nice patterns available and sends the prairie chicken free with purchase.

Those dark navy-ish borders really tie it together so nicely
