Just to show I can sew quilts that are larger than mini's.
In the first one, I combined my love of photography and quilting into this one quilt. You might see that I included, at the top right side of the quilt, what I am using (right now) as my avatar. The only photo I didn't take is almost in the center and is a beautiful arrangement of brightly colored mum-like flowers. It was taken by a Usefilm friend from England and is used with permission. The second quilt was a 2005 Elm Creek Club Block exchange. The 12" (finished) blocks all had to be leaves. The members chose a focus fabric (used for the colors), and wrote down 12 colors. Each month we drew for which color we needed to use in the next month's block. I will tell you that there are not that many pieced "leaf" patterns out there - maple leaves and variations of them. More out there in applique, but there were only three of us that enjoyed applique so not many in the quilt. Each gal made enough blocks for each member to get one. We all chose our own layout, and I had to make some smaller supplemental blocks for mine. Just wished I had taken pictures of the other quilts - all were very different and all beautiful. First of all, both quilts are just gorgeous!!!! I'm wanting to make quilt blocks with my own pics as you have...... how do you transfer the pic to fabric, what do you use and where do I get it? Thanks for the info, I'm just starting to quilt and I get so much inspiration from quilters like you on this site, thank you again.

Edie This board allows you to do a search - top of this page, top line on right side. I have put a link at the bottom of this message (from doing this search) To do your own search, type in "photo transfer" or "fabric photos", or "transfer photos to fabric" it will give you a list of what it can find on that subject that has been posted on the board. You might also do a "google or bing search on the web and see what you can find there.
I will tell you that I do prefer to transfer on to my own fabric - but if you prefer using "ready made" I would NOT recommend using the June Taylor brand unless you want your fabric photo stiff as a board. You can buy "prepared for dying" fabric that you can iron on to freezer paper and it does really well. If you can't find any information on the Board's search engine that makes any sense - let me know and I will try and walk you through the process or answer your questions etc. http://www.life123.com/hobbies/sewin...o-fabric.shtml |
Your flower quilt has really inspired me. I have been saving up photos of flowers I took in our neighborhood but did not know quite what to do with them. I really like your arrangement. Thanks for posting. Lovely!!!
