a small lap quilt almost finished. It's a sampler style.

was wondering if I want to put an outside border on or leave it with just the flower dark border.

What do you think?

proposed outer border - very light sage

Personally, I would leave it as it is and use the green for binding. It is a very pretty quilt right now.

littlehud 01-15-2011 01:04 PM

I love it just the way it is. Great job.

paintedquilt 01-15-2011 01:04 PM

Ditto what greensleeves says :D

mom-6 01-15-2011 01:05 PM

What are you planning on using for the binding?

Binding would be the light green. Not enough purple left.

dunster 01-15-2011 01:07 PM

I love your proposed outer border and would bind with dark violet.

S D G 01-15-2011 01:10 PM

I would just bind it with the same fabric as the existing border. It is beautiful as is.

ann clare 01-15-2011 01:11 PM

Stunning quilt

MaRanda 01-15-2011 01:13 PM

Beautiful quilt. I also have that pattern(book). Someday I hope to have a quilt that beautiful. :)

Jim's Gem 01-15-2011 01:15 PM

Thanks everyone for quick responses. I like that option too. I'll have to do some internet searching though to try to find more of the violet fabric. It's from my stash (2 years) and before that, it was in late Mother-in-laws stash (3 -4 years.) I finally got over the thought "too pretty to cut" and did something with it, and I'm pleased!

I have exactly 7" x WOF left of it.

Raggiemom 01-15-2011 01:24 PM

I like it the way it is. Maybe use the sage for the binding?

This is my answer too! :)

laureneberhard 01-15-2011 01:42 PM

I agree, looks good just like it is now, with green binding!

Mrs. Mel 01-15-2011 02:04 PM

Beautifully done; what about a 6" white border?

luckylindy333 01-15-2011 02:06 PM

If you want to mess with it, I think a pieced border would be very pretty, like a ribbon or something... It depends on what you plan to do with it, and if you want it to get bigger! :)

Welcome to the board!

That is a possibility. I have enough of the white background that could be used as a border too.

Blue Bell 01-15-2011 02:11 PM

Very pretty. You did a great job.

Very pretty, it looks good as is or go with a white border, an inch or two bigger than the first border. Whichever suits you will be the way to go. You did a great job on it.

Lady-T 01-15-2011 02:39 PM

Whatever you decided will not detract from it's beauty!
Great job

Floralfab 01-15-2011 02:40 PM

I like it the way it is. Just add the binding. I also like your color choices--my favorites.

clem55 01-15-2011 03:09 PM

very pretty!

Becky Crafts 01-15-2011 03:18 PM

Very pretty and well done

Lakeview Quilting 01-15-2011 04:16 PM

My vote is no border, I love it just as it is....Great job!!!!

sueisallaboutquilts 01-15-2011 06:37 PM

Beautiful! I agree with the others.

leonajo 01-15-2011 06:41 PM

very very nice! it looks ready to me.

quiltsRfun 01-15-2011 11:42 PM

I like it better the way it is also. And I love your sampler blocks. Guess I'll have to add a sampler quilt to my list.

QM 01-16-2011 12:03 AM

It depends on whether its size is already what you want. I might put a narrow border of the off-white then another, wider one of the blue, or another larger-scale blue print in the same color range.

katlady 01-16-2011 07:56 AM

Leave it with the dark border, then bind with one of the colors in the quilt.

I agree with this. If you want a bigger quilt, then add a white border and then a large-scale floral print in the same colors (a great excuse to go shopping!)

gnewk 01-16-2011 12:19 PM

Beautiful the way it is....green binding added

xsquilter 01-16-2011 12:27 PM

A very pretty quilt! I really like the colours & am sure whatever you bind it with will be perfect!

You quilters are all so kind! This can be a 'lady in waiting' for a while. No rush, no intended recipient.

Yep, maybe I'll just do a little shopping here and there to see what kinds of dark violet fabrics come my way this spring.

And if a gift giving opportunity presents itself before then, I'll just finish it as it is.
