Thanks, everyone, for all your help and lovely complements! I think I've decided to meander (meaning like stipple, but wider, and still not crossing lines)all the blocks within the red border. I'm going to attempt it by hand since that's what I know, though all those seams are scary. We'll see how it goes. I've never meandered before- any tips? I found a stencil on-line and was thinking of buying it. Is there anything to know about tracing a meander pattern with a stencil, or freehand? Is it best to start in one place and work toward another? And are the ends supposed to meet up so that it's one continuous line?

Thanks again! : )

Great Scrappy, sometimes things just take a bit of time... My oldest project (UFO) is from the 80's, some day....

Grandma Peg 07-04-2011 03:46 PM

Great quilt and border.

RobertaMarie 07-04-2011 05:01 PM

Simply stunning! I don't think I could ever get "scraps" to look that good. Bless you. Keep on sewing, you are really superb.

fred singer 07-04-2011 05:05 PM

very nice indeed gret job on it

grandmajuki 07-04-2011 05:19 PM

I'm a log cabin fan and I would either do block work on the blocks or just a side to side overall quilt design.. It's so busy it won't show up much and you don't want it to stand out above the quilt... I wouldn't put feathers on it maybe flowers...
I really like it!

Amaaaaazing!

dphelps 07-04-2011 08:01 PM

I can understand this completely. I started my DGD's quilt after she was born and ten years later, she got it. I am trying not to do that so much anymore but I get bored easily.

Log cabins are a favorite of mine and yours is spectacular! I'm LOVING the border and think I'll copy it for my next log cabin. Also want to make a scrappy log cabin. Though I tend to go with a specific pattern, you have inspired me to go scrappy!

zzzGP 07-04-2011 09:13 PM

Oh my, 20!! That's amazing. I love this quilt but I think it'll be a while before I make another one! I've already got my next quilt planned and it's about as simple as can be, lol. : )

Aunt Patti 07-07-2011 09:35 AM

A really neat idea my Dn has a poster bed and never thought of that It would even be easy for her to make her bed shes 9. and am getting ready to start her quilt going to remoldel her room for her birthday why she is visiting her nanna for 2weeks and then with her aunt and uncle for 2 weeks before school starts up again. she rides horses and competes in barrel bending in the little britches rodeos her horse is at my brothers anyway and then why she is up there Iwill hav saturdays and sundays free from taking the kids to their rodeo I sound like a bad mom but the way you made the borders r perfect I am always learning from you'all I just started quilting last year thank you!!***

caspharm 07-07-2011 09:42 AM

Nice job. Maybe use some type of a swirl quilting pattern. Either free motion or panto. What about his hobbies? Could you quilt in some words or designs related to those? :)

Kristin in ME 07-07-2011 10:36 AM

Thank you, everyone, for all the lovely complements! You all are good for my ego! ; )

I decided to meander it. I ended up making a stencil of my own for that and hope to be done marking it by the end of today. Can't *wait* to get started on quilting it! : )

Podunk Princess 07-07-2011 10:49 AM

Great job! I've never seen the border treatment you used and think it's perfect for that quilt.

mayday 07-09-2011 08:52 AM
