I decided to take it out, dust it off and show it off!

She and Grandpa married in 1898. He took a small case with drawers and she lined it with some velveteen. He drilled holes in the bottom drawer and put a few pegs in it for spools of thread. Some of the needles are still in the glass tubes!! I included pics of all the drawers.

What a great item to have. Wish it was mine. Thanks for sharing. Those were the days when quilts were really quilts. Some of the quilting today looks more like paintings and while they are gorgeous, they are not something I want to curl up under on a cold day. Diane in Garnet Valley, PA

Your little chest is absolutely gorgeous, even more so because you know the history behind it pertains to both your grandparents. So nice for you to have it in your sewing room to appreciate every day.

How great is that box to have for one's self? I agree with everyone who calls it a treasure. It's a continuity of life in your family.

Ohhhh My Goodness........what an amazing, amazing treasure chest of wonderfulness you have!! I LOVE the fact that your grandmother's hands and your hands are touching the same things! What a terrific sewing chest! Thanks so much for sharing this story and the pics!! It's awesome.

How awesome that it went to someone who could appreciate it!!! Too often things like that end up in the trash because it went to someone who had no clue as to what they had. Good for you!!

What a wonderful treasure. 'Sew" glad that you found a place to display this lovely sewing case. Your sewing room is awesome.
