That brought tears to my eyes, how special! Thank you for sharing that with us.

oldswimmer 03-03-2011 02:29 PM

That is a beautiful storage box! I just LOVE things like that! In fact, I LOOK for old things to store my treasures in..... I probabaly have too many now, but when my permanent sewing room gets done, I will have lots of cool things to use.
Its even neater knowing the history, and that its your history too!

Passionate Quilter 03-03-2011 02:57 PM

What a blessing that is for you to have, hold and cherish. Things like that only go to remind us that those we love are still with us in memories of cherished times. I am sure your daughter will cherish it as much as you do.

I want one--had one many years ago that my husband relined for my jewelry collection. Sadly, it was disposed of many years ago. I am so happy for you to have such a wonderful treasure!

Well, msuewhite, makes perfect sense to me!! My Grandpa was a tool designer for Brown and Sharps in Cranston RI. He designed the gears that cut the tools!! Thanks for the insight!!

Judie 03-03-2011 03:51 PM

I have my DGM things too.. aren't they wonderful. I love the fact that what I do comes to me as a gift from them. Probably to them from their grandmother's as well.. and on back it goes.. It is my joy and obligation to pass it on as much as I'm allowed. Oh what a day it will be when the family is reunited, and the sewing circle complete.

laalaaquilter 03-03-2011 04:34 PM

Mickie612 03-03-2011 05:17 PM

Please be sure to write the history, putting names and dates, these things have a way of being forgotten. That is just the most special thing I have seen,

Nettie Phillips 03-03-2011 05:20 PM

I'm a sentimental person and just seeing that makes me think of my Grandma and how different times were back then.

jitkaau 03-03-2011 05:28 PM

champagnebubbles 03-03-2011 05:38 PM

oh how lucky you are !!!

cheryl rearick 03-03-2011 05:38 PM

beautiful treasures with many warm memories. I have a few blocks my grandma put together and also some paper templates she use in cutting. I also have a quilt block her grandma put together in 1800's she was born 1832 so not sure when she made block. These kind of Treasure's are better than anything someone could give me. Enjoy yours. :)

gramqlts 03-03-2011 05:50 PM

You are so lucky. It is a wonderful treasure trove!!! I have buttons from 3 grandmothers and sewing notions, crocheted and embroidered doilies, pillow cases, tea towels, table and furniture scarves, an old quilt, etc from my grandmother who was my mentor who quilted all her life. We are so lucky to have some of their tools and beautiful items of work now that they are past. Cherish these things always as I will.

auntdeb 03-03-2011 05:59 PM

It's so cool to have something passed down from previous generations that was used by people you know. Maybe made by grandfather??? Maybe someone's pride and joy and now has a home where it's loved and used again. I think old stuff has a coziness that something new doesn't. To have all the things inside is just too cool!

CherryPie 03-03-2011 06:06 PM

You've really got yourself a treasure. I'm envious of you!!! It's so wonderful to have a piece of your past that you can look at every day. Cherish it.

Kitsapquilter 03-03-2011 07:58 PM

Now you have a real keeper in that wonderful sewing box!! You are a lucky gal to have fallen heir to that!! Wish I had some of those things that are in it! I have some wooden spools and a couple of old things but not near that many!

I hope you have the history written down because generations from now might not remember the whole history. Good intentions and good memories don't always go together.
