OK FOLKS...here it is, my very first quilt. Please tell me what you think, honestly!!! I need to know what needs improvment. But be gentle, my soul is fragile!! lol
I made it for my sister and she didn't seem overly thrilled with it. Or maybe I was just too excited and expected too much. But regardless I'm just happy that I DID IT!!!! I'm the one that the sewing machine would run out of the room when I walked in. |
I think it is very pretty!
Congratulations on your first quilt!! Honestly I think you have done a great job it is absolutely beautiful :D :D
I agree, Congratulations on your first quilt. I think you did a great job. Anxious now to see your 2nd. Thank You for sharing.
Beautiful
I lovethose colors, my favorites. Good job, someday I will get finished, I am working on so many different things...have fun
Hey! If your sister isn't thrilled with it, I certainly would be...send it my way! I think it's beautiful and the love shows!!
Well, if your sister doesn't like it, you can adopt me.
That is just beautiful. No need to be gentle with you. You are a natural. Great job. Keep up the good work.
Wow!!! Just awesome....Hard to believe it's your first. Quilting looks great and a really large size to tackle first time around! WTG!
DesertNurse41 I like your quilt. I'm sorry it didn't get the response you expected. Some people don't appreciate handmade items. I didn't understand all the work that goes into each quilt until I completed my first one. I hope to see more quilts from you in the future. Until then Happy Quilting.
Very pretty.
Your quilt is beautiful....you should be proud!
Your quilt is beautiful, and I'm amazed it's your first! Good job! I agree with the others that some people just don't know (and therefore can't appreciate) how much work goes into a quilt. But we do, and you did good!!! Congratulations!

Honestly, I can't imagine anyone Not being thrilled over that quilt. It is so beautiful. Love the colors and fabrics together. You did great.
Well, I think it is very pretty, love the colours/fabrics and your design, I would love it if my sister made it for me!

It is beautiful.
It looks great, i love it. I would be thrilled to have received it as a gift. sometimes NOn quilters just do not have the enthusiasm that we quilters have. They do not understand the work and love that goes into a quilt.
Lovely, those who don't quilt sometimes just don't understand the love and care goes into these projects, but that doesn't make them any less special.

It is very pretty! And like the others said some people just don't know what goes into a quilt. My husbands grandmother gave us one for our wedding. He kind of looked at it funny. I thought it was the best present we received.
I would never make my mom one - it is just not her thing. :) |
I think you did a very good job.
I like the design, the stitching is nice, the borders are good, the colors are excellent, it looks like it is in perfect square. I would be happy and proud to have been the person you gave the quilt to. I don't think you can ask for more from yourself. If you had not told me it was your 1st heirloom I would not have known. My thought is: those who do not have a passion for quilting also seem to have less appreciation for the quilts themselves. I wish so much I had kept the first quilt I made. I can't even remember it now. Would be fun to look back. You did a good job and I like the quilt. |
I think you did a great job! I have to agree with a couple of the other ladies that have responded - if you would consider new sisters I would be happy to volunteer!!! :-D

Oh yeah, your sister is nuts (no offense). Your quilt is beautiful!! |
great job
Beautiful  Keep 'em coming :-P
You did a wonderful job! I can't see anything wrong with it. Like was mentioned before so many people don't appreciate all the work that goes into making a quilt (or anything by hand).
Keep up the good work. Your sewing machine should now welcome you into the room to quilt! Looking forward to seeing your second one! |
I like your quilt ALOT!! Don't feel bad - several years ago, I had made my mother, sister, and brother each a quilt (expecting them to squeal) but their reaction was luke warm. There are those of us that are INTO quilting, and those that are NOT especially! Oh, here is one for you. When we moved to this new area and the neighbor learned that I quilt, she asked me to make her one (for FREE I found out) I worked on that quilt day and night......... when I went over to her house a couple months later - I saw it on her bed - she must have washed it in her machine with TOWELS and it WAS A MESS!!!!! I STILL am not over that one!
Oh, I love the pinks... wonderful!
I think your first quilt is awesome. You did a wonderful job.
If I were going to give you any advice it would be to have more contrast in your colors next time. These are very close to one another and the work you put in does not stand out as well as it would if the colors were more different. I struggle with color on every quilt. Awesome first effort. |
Well, I think your quilt is beautiful, especially for a first quilt. My first quilt was not nearly as good looking as yours. Welcome to the wonderful world of quilters, and know that we can all empathize with giving someone one of our quilts that we put so much love into, only to see their reaction be less than enthusiastic. Please don't let this discourage you. Non-quilters just don't have an appreciation for all the work that goes into beautiful quilts like yours. I started making my quilts only for myself as I wasn't getting the reactions I wanted either. Now, people come into my house, see my quilts 'decorating' my house, and are starting to ask for them. It doesn't hurt to be just a bit stingy at first and keep some for yourself.
Editted to add: I forgot to mention - ALWAYS post a picture of your new quilts on this board. You will get a lot of appreciation from this group. As a matter of fact, when I finish a quilt now, the first thing I think about is posting a picture. All the quilters here are so great at giving positive reinforcement. |
very very nice
Very nice, beautiful colors.
I like it. Nice colors.
Well it's all been said. However; I love your quilt too and think you did an amazing job on it--so be PROUD of yourself. Take a minutes and pat yourself on the back.
Make sure the next one is for yourself, then you will know that it is appreciated, loved and cared for. Congrats to you of this beautiful quilt. |
It is incredible, better than my fourth quilt even! keep going.
Wish my first one had looked that pretty!
Such lovely, soft colors. This quilt wants to live in a cottage next to a lake, just like me!!!
I think it is beautiful and I would just think of your Sister being too shocked at the beauty of it to make a good comment. I give most of my quilts away and have had all of them appreciated and all thought of as beautiful. I'm sorry your sister wasn't able to put her true thoughts in words. Tell her if she really doesn't want it. that you would be more than happy to have it back. See what she says about that.
