with some help from Grammy of course. But I'm very proud of her. Several weeks ago I was trying to finish a quilt while DGD was visiting. Needing something to occupy her for 30 minutes, I gave her my scrap bin and told her to find some fabrics and put them on the design wall so I could see how she wanted to put them together. She made some great choices. I added 2 pieces to make it a rectangle. Each time she visited we sewed a few pieces together. Friday we sewed the last seam and put the backing on. It's only a little doll quilt, so I didn't think it needed batting, just a flannel back. We birthed it and used a wavy line grid for quilting. She loved using my little Brother machine with buttons to push. I'm so proud of her! Now she wants to sew Christmas presents.

Many of my friends wished that they would have asked their grandmother how to quilt. How special.

klaws 10-14-2013 10:28 AM

Beautiful little quilt and DGD. She has a real eye for color. Nice work.

sewmom 10-14-2013 10:41 AM

I love her little quilt! She did a great job coordinating the color. It's fun to teach someonr the art ofnquilting.
I have a few of the fabrics that are in her little quilt and I recognize the fabrics in the quilt behind her- Susan Winget's Serene Shores. Loved that line of fabric!

grandmaemma 10-14-2013 11:28 AM

What a sweet little girl. Grandkids are sooo much fun. What a nice quilt and great memories for both DGD and Grandma :) Thank you for sharing. Makes me smile.

frenchfryqueen 10-14-2013 11:50 AM

Well hello there cutie pie! She looks very impressed with herself, as well she should! Wonderful of you to pass along your talents, Grammy. I learned my love for sewing/quilting from my grandmother as well.

quilt-n-girl 10-14-2013 02:15 PM

She did a wonderful job, tell her to keep up the good work. She started early, I didn't start until I was married. My mother always made the same quilt pattern. When I went to West Va, and saw all the great patterns my husbands grandmothers made, I was bitten by the quilting bug. When I got back home I made a sunbonnet sue quilt. I made a pink, and white embroidered rabbit quilt for my daughter. Since we moved, I haven't found it yet, I wanted to give it to my daughter when my granddaughter was born, but could not find it.

Give her a hug for me. I would call this "spoon quilting". Love that picture of the two of you!
