Great choice on the addition.

Nilla, this is a picture of the back. The beige is the original backing and the blue is the backing on the extension. If I remember correctly I was thinking I had blind stitched the new backing by hand but I just went and looked again and it was stitched with the same seam as the addition was stitched on with. I just remember it went really well and wasn't that difficult. Good luck. Let me know how it turns out if you add to a quilt.

Wow, I am thoroughly impressed. That's a new idea for me. I have a dresden plate quilt that I love....except for the borders. I tried to jazz it up when I should have stayed with a simple design. I basted it (I didn't have a long arm at the time), then decided I was not going to be happy with the border, so I just folded it up and put it away. I might be able to just unbaste the border and a bit of the inner fabric, then add on a new simpler border.

I don't have any quilt right now that I would need to use your idea on, but with the way I change my mind, it will eventually happen I'm sure. I'm a visual person so thanks for showing pictures!

Wow. Beautiful job and beautiful quilt. What a neat idea to leave binding. Makes it look like another type of "prairie point"

It turned out beautifully... what a way to "save" and use an already pretty quilt.

You did a great job.

Fascinating, but I want to ask about the fabric. Did you happen to have a bunch left over from the original quilt?
